Speed Networking. Like speed dating, but hopefully less awkward. Looking for someone to collaborate with, or perhaps you are new to UFERN and would like to meet other researchers or practitioners whose work focuses on undergraduate field experiences. Join us for a speed networking session to connect with other UFERN meeting participants. Pre-meeting event.

Welcome & Keynote Speaker (Dr. Julie Libarkin). Join us to hear from Dr. Julie Libarkin who will provide examples of initiatives that have shown promise in fostering inclusion of undergraduate students in field and lab settings. Her keynote address will include opportunities for reflection and discussion as well as Q & A.


1:10 – 1:30

Critical Conversations. Break out groups to discuss keynote topic.


1:30 – 2:00

2:00 – 3:00

Poster Session. Meet in Gather.town to view posters and discuss in real-time with presenters. Poster topics include affective learning strategies, diversity, application of UFERN model, and responses to COVID-19 pandemic.


3:00 – 3:30

Break or continue poster session (unattended by presenters)


3:30 – 5:00

Workshops. Workshops must be signed up for in advance. Workshops include Ally Skills, Increasing DEI efforts across a system: Lessons from the UC Natural Reserve System, and What does a field-based learning, undergraduate mentorship look like?: A review and discussion.

Welcome & Panel (Accessibility in Undergraduate Field Education). This interdisciplinary panel will discuss their work related to accessibility in undergraduate field education, including barriers, solutions, and successes.


1:10 – 1:30

Critical Conversations. Break out groups to discuss panel topic.


1:30 – 2:00

2:00 – 3:30

UFERN Model for design, assessment, and research. The goals of the session are to: 1) highlight the UFERN model as a key network product, 2) spark interdisciplinary discussions, and 3) encourage and support use and testing of the UFERN model for designing, implementing, assessing, and researching about student-centered UFEs.


3:30 – 3:45

Wrap Up & Celebration. This session will address the next steps for the network and how can you get involved? Participants will have an opportunity to join break out discussions on topics for potential collaborations for the future.
